I am not asking for privilege.
I am asking for a chance.
I am at risk of losing my sight.
There are two surgeries that could save my eyes,
and my ability to see.
Everything I am depends on that.
At Bellas Artes, they used to call me “Colorpedia”.
They would show me almost identical shades of red,
and I could identify the smallest difference in each one.
That is what my eyes can do.
With these same eyes,
I worked reconstructing
Il viaggio a Reims by Rossini
and
Ines de Castro by Persiani.
This is not a hobby.
This is my life.
I was born for this. Believe me.
I do not know how to be anything else.
There are millions of blind people in the world.
I know that.
I am not asking to be above them.
I am asking for the chance not to lose what defines my life.
